DIRECTOR-GENERAL

Akis Gregoriou

Akis Gregoriou is the Co-Owner and Director-General of The Grammar School, Nicosia. He completed his studies in Political Science in New York, and returned to Cyprus in 1985 where he taught History and Politics at The Grammar School for several years. In 1987 he became the Director-General.
DIRECTOR

Sylvana Eleftheriadou

Sylvana Eleftheriadou is the Co-Owner and Co-Director of The Grammar School, Nicosia. She graduated from The Grammar School in 1975 and went on to study English Literature at Pace University, New York, USA. After completing her studies Sylvana Eleftheriadou taught English at The Grammar School for fourteen years. In 1984 she became Director.

Stephen Patsalos

Stephen Patsalos was born, raised and studied in the UK. He graduated from the University of East Anglia with a degree in Biological Sciences (BSc). He joined The Grammar School team in 2001 and was appointed as the Head of Biology and Science in 2006. In addition to this role, he also teaches A Level Biology.

Having wildlife as his passion, Stephen Patsalos has been an active member of the Environment Club and has organised several nature trail excursions around Cyprus for students. Moreover, he has been responsible for several science exchange programs both in Cyprus and France, along with coordinating the YRoNS programme in Hungary.

Costas Christoforou

Costas Christoforou holds a BSc, MSc MEng, MBA from USA. Before joining The Grammar School Nicosia as a teacher of Physics in 1997, he was a teaching/research assistant at Southern Illinois University. His area of teaching/research included fluid mechanics, thermal science, and energy management. As a Grammar School Physics teacher, he has extensive experience in teaching IGCSE and A Level Physics.

He was promoted to Head of Physics in 2003. Since then, he has been a member of various school committees including academic, discipline, systems development, and teachers training. He attended numerous seminars on educational leadership, teachers’ performance, curriculum development, student assessment and classroom management.

He was appointed Headmaster in September 2022. His duties, among others, include digitalisation, process optimisation, data analysis, student affairs, discipline, and teachers’ evaluation.

In his free time he enjoys practicing and teaching karate. He is a holder of 3 Dan WKF, WSKF Black Belt and is a licensed karate instructor by CSO (KOA).

DEPUTY HEADMASTER

Harry Christofi

Harry Christofi was born in London and has an MEd in English Language Teaching from Manchester University. He joined The Grammar School in 1994. In 2013 he became Head of  English.

He has a proven track record of successfully managing resources and staff within the School to improve our educational services, thus providing the students and teachers with the educational environment to reach their goals.

In September 2022 he became Deputy Headmaster. An important aspect of his job is implementing discipline within the school.

DEPUTY HEADMISTRESS

Kam Stylianou

Kam Stylianou joined The Grammar School in 1990 after completing her studies in English Literature and Film Studies at the University of East Anglia. She taught a range of levels of English Language and Literature at the school, including Business English, IGCSE English Language and A Level English Literature before becoming Deputy Headmistress in 2006.

Her current role at the school includes leading the Higher Education Advisory Team which guides students through their elective subject choices, offering students advice on careers and then taking them through the application process for universities in a variety of countries around the world. She regularly attends conferences on admissions procedures globally and tours universities in the UK and Europe twice a year to ensure that students receive up-to date and accurate advice on making competitive applications.

DEPUTY HEADMASTER

Christodoulos Mavroyiakoumos

Christodoulos Mavroyiakoumos joined The Grammar School in 1991, after graduating with a Bachelor of Science from T.S.C. (U.S.A.) and a Master of Science from N.J.I.T. (U.S.A.). He worked as a Teaching Assistant with a full scholarship during his MSc and later as an adjunct Instructor for undergraduate courses of Mathematics in the University of N.J.I.T. (U.S.A.). He was also a member of the American Mathematical Society.

He was promoted to Head of the Mathematics in 2011. He created the Mathematics Club and worked to digitalise his department. He is always very active in continuous professional development from abroad and in Cyprus. He manages interschool activities and university projects, building strong relationships with these institutions. He continues to share his enthusiasm, knowledge and experience with colleagues, students, and parents.

He was appointed as Deputy Headmaster in 2022.

Head of Business Development and Innovation

Tonia is the Head of STEM Academic Programme which has as its mission to support the development, implementation and selective spread of innovative strategies for engaging students in experiences that will increase their awareness and for STEM fields.
Her teaching experience on Information Technology is over 15 years. She was appointed the Head of Computer Science in 2013 and in 2015 she was appointed the Head of Business Development and Innovation. She holds a BSc Degree from State University of New York in Computer Information Science and a MSc in Information Technology Consultancy. She formed the STEM Programme in 2015 which has been running for the past 6 years.

Head of Accounting

After graduating from the Pancyprian Lyceum in Larnaca George Stavrou followed his studies in New York, USA. In 1985 he graduated from Nassau Community College with an Associate degree. He continued his studies at New York Tech University, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. In 1992 he became a Fellow Member of Financial Accountants. In the years 1988-1992 he worked as a teacher at St. Joseph School of Larnaca and Nicosia and Terra Santa College. He has been a teacher at The Grammar School since 1992 and was promoted to Head of the Department in September 2008.

Head of Chemistry

Iacovos Hadjitofis graduated from the Grammar School, Nicosia in 1985. He was awarded the degree of BSc in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky (USA) in 1992. He joined the Grammar School staff in September 1992.
While working as a Grammar School teacher, Iacovos Hadjitofis pursued and obtained the degree of Master of Education (MEd) from Trenton State University (USA) in 1996.
He was appointed as the Head of Chemistry in September 2012.

Anastasia Koliandri has been working as a Computers’ teacher at The Grammar School since 2008. In 2018 she was appointed as of Head of the Computers Department.
Anastasia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus and a Master’s degree in Education, Technology and Society from the University of Bristol UK.

Stelios Stylianou

Operations Manager, Head of Economics

Stelios Stylianou served at the position of Deputy Headmaster since the summer 2006 and up to the summer of 2022. As of the summer of 2022 he serves at the newly formed position of Organisational Manager. He has been teaching throughout these years and is also the Head of the Economics Department.

He graduated from the American Academy in Nicosia in 1985, in 1987 after serving his army duties, he joined The American international College of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst USA. After he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management information Systems, he continued with his master’s degree at the University of Reading in the outskirts of London UK.

In September 1991 he began his career at the Grammar School in Nicosia as a teacher of IGCSE and A Level economics. Over his duties as a teacher, he served as the president of the Teachers Association committee for ten years and is a member of the Academic committee. Amongst his current duties he organises the schools’ seminars, usually with British examiners and applies for funding through the Human Resource Development Authority. He organises the economic department of the Grammar School both on curriculum and extra curriculum activities.

Harry Christofi attended school in London. He received his M.Ed. in Teaching English Language from Manchester University. He has been at the Grammar School as a teacher since 1994 and as a Head of department for the last five years.

Andreas Athanasiou

Head of Geography Department

Andreas Athanasiou is a Grammar School Nicosia Graduate (2003) and has studied Environmental Science at Kingston University London. He also completed his post-graduate Diploma at Kingston University on Sustainable Environmental Development with management Studies (2009). He is a teacher at the Grammar School for the past 11 years and during the last years he is the Head of the Geography Department. While at school Andreas Athanasiou received an Award for his contribution to the choir for 7 years as a Soloist, an Award for contribution to the Theatrical Play 2002 and an Award for being the School President 2002 – 2003.

Andreas Athanasiou’s ambition is to travel every year with his colleagues and students hoping that what he can offer is a once in a lifetime experience and that students will look back and be proud of their school and choices.

Kyriacos Pelekanos is a Grammar School graduate (class of 98). After completing his army service in 2000 he attended Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated in 2004 with majors in Weightlifting, Fitness & Nutrition. At the same period of time he attended North Academy of Fitness in Thessaloniki with majors in Personal training, Weight and Group training. He has been selected as Cyprus Fitness Ambassador for Idea World Fitness Organization for the years 2014-2019. His professional development, mostly in U.S.A, includes various fitness sectors such as Weightlifting, Functional Training, HIIT, Bodybuilding & Fitness, CrossFit and Pilates. He joined The Grammar School Nicosia family again, as a Physical Education teacher, in 2005 until 2014 and re-joined again in 2019. In 2020 Kyriacos Pelekanos became Head of the Physical Education Department.
