Class 5

Students of Class 5 are required to choose their elective subjects for AS/A Level in Class 6 by mid-March.  This important decision is reached after guidance from the School in the form of presentations and meetings for both parents and students. Subject choices are very important at this stage and decisions should be made in relation to further studies at university.

Students may choose 3 or 4 Advanced Subsidiary courses in Class 6.  They take external examinations at the end of Class 6 and are awarded their AS Level qualifications.  Subject choices are then continued to A2 Level in Class 7.

AS Level grades are very important because:
  • They indicate a student’s academic potential
  • They must be included on UCAS applications
  • Universities look at AS grades seriously, together with teachers’ predictions for GCE A Level performance
  • Top ranking universities and competitive courses require ‘A’ and ‘A*’ grades
