Social Work

Social Work

Our club aims to enable Grammar School students to contribute to the community by showing concern for people in need. They also build their organizational, social and communicative skills, which are invaluable in life in and after school.

Throughout the year, Social Work Club members organized events and activities, the proceeds of which went to a variety of local, national and international charities.

September:
€200 raised from selling tickets to Karaiskakion.
English books and clothing were given to Kentro Asilou at Kofinou.

October:
Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends
Fundraiser - €1550 raised
Radiomarathon - €500 raised and €300 given to families in need
Participation in the Europa Donna march
Sale of tickets for kids with heart diseases €100
Donation of Greek books to TAMA

November:
Road Safety Week (with PE Department)
Sale of UNICEF items - €1,000 raised.
Help for a family through Archbishop Makarios III Hospital.
Anti-Racism Week – Bazaar – a cheque of €500 was given to the Pancyprian Anti-leukemic “Zoe” Association
Pancyprian Anti-Drug Association - visit to Stohos
Collection of clothes donated to the Red Cross for immigrants
Bazaar for the Anti-drug Association at Ayios Georgios Latsia - €200

December:
Heart Patients – fund raising €870
Selling seals for children with chest diseases €60
Christmas BBQ, lottery, bazaar, paintings – €3,182 raised of which €2,500 was given to people in need.
10 boxes of “Love with Food” were given to 10 families in need.
Decoration of Archbishop Makarios III Hospital and visits to homes for the elderly.
Volunteer work Day – student and teacher members participated in a special event at the Presidential Palace.
The Grammar School and 13 Grammar School students were awarded a plaque and certificates for volunteer work by the Pancyprian Anti-drug Association.
The Anti-drug Association – Youth Team was established consisting solely of Grammar School students.

January:
Sale of tickets for children with special needs “Σωματείο Αγάπη” - €570 raised.
Help to Arodafnousa €600 for WiFi installation at the patients’ centre.
Sale of 44 calendars for the Nicosia Dog Shelter €225.

February:
6 paintings and a box of food sent to Archbishop Makarios III Hospital
Valentine’s Day Bazaar - sale of roses
Non Uniform Day €2,023
Cheques were given to:-
Skapaneas Association €500
Children with Heart Problems Association €500
Kidney Patients €500
Anti-leukemic Association “Zoe” €500
Anemoni Foundation €500

 

March:
Sale of tickets for Anti-drug Association €325
Kidney Patients fund raising €585
Sale of Easter candles for Anti-leukemic Association €150
The Grammar School was awarded with the flag of Road Safety by Reaction for the Faethon-Tassos Mitsopoulos Programme as the Private School with the most activities.

 

April:
School members donated cakes for the “Journey for Sight Bazaar”.
BBQ Night - €2,000 donated to the Anti-drug Association and €2,000 donated to the Cyprus Red Cross.

May:
Easter Bazaar - €1,150 collected with Spanish Club - €1,000 donated to Telethon.
IEEN Materia Programme – collection of used children’s items for charity.

Participation in the Walk for Children with Heart Problems.
