Grammar School Red Cross

The Grammar School Red Cross Club is a member of the Cyprus Red Cross Society Youth Section. It aims to promote the principles of “Humanity” and “Volunteer Work”. There are 33 members from all classes. Members meet regularly at school and participate in a number of fund raising campaigns organized by the Red Cross Society Youth Section. In addition, we attend the meetings organized by the Cyprus Red Cross on a monthly basis at their offices in Nicosia, where we exchange ideas and coordinate our activities.

This year’s activities were:

  • Anti-Racism Week – frappe and sweets were sold.
  • World Aids Day – red ribbons were sold and leaflets distributed.
  • Camping - organized by the Cyprus Red Cross.
  • Ayios Georgios Latsia bazaar – sold cakes and jewellery in cooperation with the Pancyprian Anti Drug Association.
  • Remembrance Day - announcements were sent to all mentor groups emphasizing the importance of the day.
  • Annual Christmas Bazaar at school – visits to homes for the elderly.
  • Red Cross Bazaar at the Mall of Cyprus in December.
  • Decoration of Christmas trees at the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital.
  • Visits to the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital where members helped children with their school work.
  • Valentine’s Day – cakes and jewellery were sold.
  • Members assisted in the “Door to Door” fund raising campaign in March.
  • In April some members participated in the Pancyprian gathering of the Red Cross Youth.

The total amount of money collected during the year is € 1,050 which was given to the Social Work Club for various charities.
